Chapter 9
In Conclusion: What Must We Do Now?

Jesus said, "To him whom much is given, much is expected." It is time that we Christians get off our pews and stand up for the values on which this country was founded and has been blessed beyond all nations in the history of the world by Almighty God. There are signs for any to see that this country and its children and their children may be headed in a direction that will be devastating to them and to this country's future. As a nation founded on the belief and devotion to God and Jesus Christ, we as a nation, have turned away from our responsibility of holding the culture and politicians accountable with our vote- with the ballot and our dollars.

We've allowed the secular humanists, the atheists and agnostics to: virtually expunge our children's textbooks of any sign of our Christian history or any reference to God; take prayer and the Bible out of our schools; and to allow our children to be shamed by the secular world in even speaking about Jesus Christ in public. Our entertainment media, the television programs and the movies virtually deny and relegate God, and the values He has commanded us to keep, to a non-relevant matter. "A great deal is being said by saying nothing about God and religion. The basic message that comes across is that God is either nonexistent or irrelevant, and that religion was not very important in American history and American life. This needs to be corrected." From "Christianity and The Constitution" by John Eidsmoe

There is a famous quote that says, "All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men (and women) to do nothing." The children of this and future generations will look at the Christian community and the world situation and ask "Didn't they even care enough to make a committed stand for their values?" And as the generations move further and further away from commitment to the values and commandments God gave us in the Bible, eventually the world could be completely dominated by secular humanism and a huge price will be paid for it! Because of our lack of commitment to posterity, we are in fact, mortgaging their spiritual future! They will not ask "Where is the Christian?" They will ask "What is a Christian?"

Some do believe that God is showing us some signs that He is ready for us to step forward with Him in the direction of some of our new Christian leaders and their commitment to the Lord and our country's welfare and future. Isn't it time that the Christian church make a commitment to bring this country back to the values on which God has blessed us so abundantly? We owe it to our children and their children- and most importantly in our faithfulness to our Lord who has made this Christian nation the most blessed peoples the world has ever known. It is time we Christians quit apologizing to the world for our values in the form of inaction and realize that this country is the greatest and most blessed nation in the world and recognize, once again, how we received this blessing.

"Christians have a vital contribution to make to the health and well being of America. They are needed to articulate biblical principles of government in every courtroom, legislative hall, precinct meeting and school board meeting in the nation. They must also articulate these principles with human reason consistent with God's revealed Word. God has revealed His truth not only by special revelation (the Bible) but also by general revelation (nature, reason, and conscience: Rom. 2:14-15), sometimes called natural grace, or common grace. Christians must appeal to general revelation when dealing with people who do not accept special revelation.
Christians are needed to reestablish the moral tone to society. The Founding Fathers recognized that freedom cannot exist in an immoral society- the nation will crumble from within or be conquered from without. Christians must supply the moral fiber that comes from obedience to God and His natural and revealed laws if America is to survive and flourish as a free society. Christians must be salt of the earth and light of the world. "Righteousness exalteth a nation; but sin is a reproach to any people." (Prov. 14:34). "Christianity and The Constitution" p.410, by John Eidsmoe

"There is a view among some historians that a democracy is an intrinsically unstable form of government:
The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years... And the cycle is surprisingly predictable: ...from bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; from abundance to complacency; from complacency to apathy; from apathy to dependency; from dependency back again into bondage. -Alexander Tyler, 1750
Studies of the predictable decay of empires and cultures generally discern three primary aspects of their decline: Social Decay, Cultural Decay, and Moral Decay…One of the most stirring quotes always comes to my mind: "If you love wealth more than liberty, and if you prefer the tranquility of servitude rather than the animated contest of freedom, then go home in peace. We seek neither your counsel nor your arms. But bend down and lick the hands that feed you; and may your chains rest lightly upon you. And may posterity forget that you were our countryman. "- Samuel Adams.
We need to take our heritage seriously. We need to recognize the adversary that is intrepidly eroding our freedoms - especially our freedom to worship. We need to exercise diligence and initiative in protecting our Republic, our rights, and our freedoms - especially for our children and grandchildren! " from "Twilight's Last Gleaming?" by Chuck Missler

How are we going to do it? We're not. God will do it…If we are willing to step forward! If we do the possible, God will do the impossible! That is the lesson God gave us in the Bible over and over again.
French writer de Tocqueville, after visiting America said, "I sought the greatness of the United States in her commodious harbors, her ample rivers, her fertile fields, and boundless forests- and it was not there. I sought for it in her rich mines, her vast world commerce, her public school system, and in her institutions of higher learning- and it was not there. I looked for it in her democratic Congress and her matchless Constitution- and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits aflame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great!"

Abraham Lincoln said "It is the duty of nations, as well as of men, to owe their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in Holy Scripture and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is The Lord."

You and I, as Christians, have a responsibility to respond. Dear Christian brothers and sisters, "If not us, who? If not now, when?" Do not be deceived that we cannot turn back the clock. It is not about that. It is, rather, about faith in and obedience to Almighty God. What is He expecting of us, and what is He capable of doing with His Power and Omnipotence? Stay focused at that point, and as Winston Churchill exhorted to the British people during World War II when they were under great peril and attack… "Persevere." No less is now at stake in America.
